Details

Hotel El Castillo is located on top of one of the hills that surrounds the city of Baracoa. In its beginnings it was an old fortress (1742): the “Seboruco de Santa Bárbara Castle”, built by the Spanish in colonial times to defend the city from attacks by pirates and corsairs.

Given its geographical location, access to the city of Baracoa is in itself a source of excitement for those who travel by land. The “La Farola” road, built during the first half of the 1960s, is an ascending spiral that skirts the mountain range, offering impressive views. It has 11 suspension bridges and its maximum height is in the place known as Altos de Cotilla, 600 meters above sea level.

Baracoa was the first of the seven towns founded by the Spanish conquerors and therefore the first capital and first bishopric of the Island. Today its geographical characteristics and the conservation of its natural surroundings make it an ideal setting for nature tourism. Ancient customs from the aboriginal culture still survive among its population and a good part of them retain the physical features of the first Taino settlers.

The Hotel Castillo has 34 rooms, spread over 2 two-story blocks. All of them have private bathroom, satellite TV, minibar, safe and telephone.

Its employees are characterized by their kindness and for offering the best food in Baracoa. Visitors can taste typical local food in its restaurant or visit a pleasant tavern-bar  and enjoy wonderful views of the bay, the Miel River and the "Yunque de Baracoa", a symbol of the city.

The complex has a swimming pool with a children's area, sun loungers and parasols. Leisure activities are offered for all ages, including a special Baracoa night with native rhythms from the region. Excursions can be booked through the hotel itself to visit the city center, declared a “National Monument”; Fort Matachín and La Punta; the fortified towers of Joa; the mighty river Toa, the cemetery and other places of historical, tourist and social interest.
