As for the fauna, in the area there is a great variety of species, fundamentally birds, of which about 160 species have been reported, both migratory and endemic, among which the most striking are the Zunzuncito, the Catey, the Parrot and the Partridge Dove, among others.

Also forming part of fauna of the Ciénaga de Zapata you can find 16 species of reptiles, among which the Cuban Crocodile (Rombifer) stands out. Other important species are the Manatee and the Manjuarí, the latter considered a living fossil.
